Bob Kirscher, the longtime owner of the Broken Eggs on Siesta Key, Lakewood Ranch and Clark Road in Sarasota County, said Wednesday he has sold his stake in the business.
"It is time for me to move on," Kirscher said Wednesday, shortly after the flagship Siesta Key Broken Egg closed its doors for renovations and a cosmetic Jonathan Toews Authentic Jersey update by its new owners.
When it reopens in late January or early February, the restaurant will be called Another Broken Egg Cafe and have a menu that is used at a dozen of that chain’s outlets, from Louisiana to North Carolina.
Vitale’s presence Duncan Keith Womens Jersey or lack thereof could be another change.
The Hall of Fame basketball coach and Lakewood Ranch resident became a Broken Egg fan several years ago, after dining at the Siesta Key restaurant. In time, Vitale and his morning stack of newspapers became a fixture.
In 2010, when the Broken Egg debuted in Lakewood Ranch, Vitale began eating breakfast closer to home. Vitale has also done ESPN commentaries from the Broken Egg and even conducted radio interviews with other sportscasters there.
In return for the publicity, Kirscher began featuring Vitale related souvenir merchandise from bobble heads to T shirts to books to benefit Vitale’s favorite charity, The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Proceeds from the merchandise sales go toward battling pediatric cancers.
"I just hope and pray the new owners follow the pattern of Pam and Bob Kirscher," Vitale said Wednesday. "The big thing is, they helped me raise a lot of dollars for the V Foundation.
"I want to continue that," Vitale said. "If not, I guess I become a free Duncan Keith Youth Jersey agent and go somewhere else."
A Broken Egg stays on Clark Road
Kirscher has also parted with the Broken Egg on Clark Road, but that restaurant was sold to Dawn Hair, the current manager there.
Hair declined to reveal her purchase price, but she noted that Kirscher "set me up for success. He made my dream a reality."
The Clark Road restaurant will retain the name "The Broken Egg." But the moniker will come with a disclaimer on menus and other promotional material: "Not affiliated with Another Broken Egg," Hair said.
Hair has worked for Kirscher for seven years. She opened the restaurant at Lakewood Ranch and also the one on Clark road.
In selling to Hair, Kirscher has honored a promise he made that, if he ever retired, he would give her the first option to buy the Clark Road restaurant.
Deal means expansion
Meanwhile on Siesta Key and in Lakewood Ranch, buying out Kirscher means more than just acquiring two more restaurants to add to the dozen Another Broken Egg Cafes that franchisee Double R Restaurant Group, of Lafayette, La., operates in four states, regional executive Shawn Pollard said.
It could prove to be a gateway to further expansion.
That is because Kirscher had a long standing deal with Miramar Beach based Another Broken Egg of America Inc. that divided the use of the phrase "Broken Egg" between them.
Kirscher owned the rights to use the name anywhere in southern Florida, from Tampa to Key West.
By acquiring Kirscher’s company, Double R will be able to push Another Broken Egg restaurants into South Florida.
"We have been trying to get these two stores, because with these two stores it gives us the right to expand into southern Florida," Pollard said. "We plan to open 35 to 45 cafes."
Double R already holds options on two locations in Naples and is looking at sites in Venice and Sarasota, he said. On Florida’s East Coast, Double R is planning cafes in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach.
In addition to the name change in Lakewood Ranch and Siesta Key, the restaurants will be extensively renovated to conform with Another Broken Egg Caf’s motifs and color schemes, Pollard said.
